About Us

There is a lot going on at Detour Theatre. We produce four shows a year (plays), and run drama classes for children, teen, adults, seniors, and groups with special needs.
We operate from a delightfully restored and repurposed hall built in 1911 that is now located at the Historic Village on 17th Avenue West, Tauranga.
The work of Detour Theatre is centered around the professional skills of our Co-Directors Devon and Kim Williamson and fabulous volunteers from the community.
About Kim WilliamsonKim is a local hero (literally, she won an award!), a whirl-wind of energy, and often has pink hair. Kim directs at least two shows each year for the theatre, runs weekly drama classes for children, adults, and seniors, and delivers our very busy programme of drama classes for adults with intellectual disabilities. On top of this Kim is also a very popular actor.
About Devon WilliamsonDevon is our resident playwright, director and drama tutor for teens and adults. His new plays are premiered right here at Detour Theatre and then performed by theatres in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, USA and the UK. Check out his website here.

Detour Theatre is a Registered Charitable Trust: The Detour Theatre Trust (CC10178).
